As part of the media project day at Klax School, Prof Dr Dr Björn Niehaves gave an inspiring talk to the middle and upper school students. The students in years 7 to 13 had already studied the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) beforehand. Prof Niehaves deepened this knowledge in his keynote speech. He heads the Digital Transformation of Public Services working group at the University of Bremen and is a member of the Digitalisation Advisory Board for Public Law.
An interactive test at the beginning of the keynote showed that humans are still faster than AI in some areas, but this is only a matter of time, Prof Niehaves emphasised. AI is constantly improving and is now being used in many areas, often more efficiently than humans - be it in medicine, robotics or the arts. At the same time, however, it also poses challenges, such as biases in data sets or overconfidence in the decisions made by AI. What does this mean for the future of work? Many jobs will change as a result of AI. Some jobs may even disappear, but in most cases AI will support people rather than replace them. Ultimately, it will be up to us humans to decide how we use this technology.
In the question and answer session that followed, the students' keen interest in the topic became clear: What do students need to learn about AI? Will AI eventually take over the world? How will it be possible to distinguish between AI-generated and real content in the future? The discussion showed that artificial intelligence is not just a topic for the future, but is already shaping our everyday lives. This makes it all the more important to engage with it and understand its opportunities and risks.
A big thank you to Prof. Björn Niehaves for this informative talk and to all involved for the successful organisation!
